It has come to our attention that a certain individual calling themselves POLITICO is writing on social media – notably on WhatsApp – and copyrighting as such. We have seen a few of their writings.

We wish to state it categorically that Politico Newspaper has nothing whatsoever to do with the said individual or individuals.

Covid-19 quarantined residents go on the rampage in Sierra Leone

It was a chaotic scene in Baomahun Village in Valuania Chiefdom, Southern Sierra Leone, last Monday 15th June, as residents placed in quarantine went on the rampage.

They said they were protesting neglect by the District Covid-19 Response Committee (DEOC) which they accused of failing to provide them food after restricting their movement.

DCI calls for child friendly justice system in Sierra Leone

In commemoration of the Day of the African Child, Defense for Children International (DCI) Sierra Leone has made a case for Sierra Leonean children in conflict with the law.

A press statement issued by the child rights campaign group, dated 16th June, 2020, highlights a number of issues that both children in conflict with the law and those seeking access to justice face in the country, including lack of fair trial due to limitation of services and inhumane condition in detention facilities.

26 Njala lecturers to self-isolate for Covid-19 after attending funeral

The administration of Njala University says it has ordered 26 of its lecturers to go into self-isolation after they participated in a funeral ceremony.

The lecturers reportedly attended the funeral of a former colleague who died of Covid-19 related complications.

Politico learned that the late lecturer was hospitalized for about two weeks, first at the UMC Mercy Hospital and he was later taken to the Bo Government Hospital where he died on June 12.

Villagers protest alleged plan to reinstate chiefs accused of ritual murder

Residents of Gherihun Village in Baoma Chiefdom, southern Sierra Leone, have protested the alleged planned return of three Section Chiefs whom they accused of involvement in ritual murders.

The villagers took to the streets last Friday, June 12, in anticipation of an impending visit by the Resident Minister East, Mohamed Ali, whom they believe is working towards reinstating the chiefs.

UNICEF hands over 32 motorbikes for Sierra Leone's Covid-19 fight

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Sierra Leone has provided the Sierra Leone government with 32 brand new motorbikes to boost the country’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The bikes were handed to the Ministry of Social Welfare which is expected to use them to provide Psychosocial Support Services as part of the response effort, according to news release from the UN children’s agency.
