Investigations into Khadija’s death in progress, assures Sierra Leone Police spokesman

Police in Sierra Leone say investigations tino the death of a five-year old child who was allegedly raped are in progress.

A police spokesman said four people have been taken into custody and were helping them in their investigation. Superintendent Brima Kamara, Media and Public Relations Officer, said those detained include the main suspect, a boy who is thought to have raped the child – Khadija Saccoh - and her aunt. Both the boy and the aunt, as well as a third detainee, are said to be relatives of the victim.

Lands ministry hands over 223 acres of resurveyed land to MMCET

The Minister of Lands, Country Planning and the Environment, Dr. Dennis Sandy, has officially handed over 223 acres of resurveyed land to the Milton Margai College of Education and Technology (MMCET), Goderich campus. Dr Sandy personally handed over the land to the Principal of the college, Dr Philip Kanu, on Thursday at a short ceremony in the conference room of the Ministry of Information and Communication.

Koinadugu gets bore holes from Kuwaiti donors

A charity group in Kuwait known as Esteemed Kuwaiti Ladies has sponsored the drilling of bore holes in Koinadugu District. The donation, which was done through Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Haja Isata Thomas, is part of ways to give much more access to safe drinking water to rural communities in the country.

Four boreholes were drilled in different areas in the district; Gbawuria, Kabala Town, Bankolia, and Kamanemeh. The project was implemented by Ishata and Abbassie Thomas Foundation in Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leoneans excited about relaxation of curfew

Citizens across Freetown have expressed excitement over the move by President Julius Maada to relax the 10-hour curfew by two hours. The curfew is now from 11pm to 6am.

The move was announced on Tuesday at a special press briefing at State House, where the president also announced the relaxation of several other restrictions.

The treason trial of former Defense minister, Alfred Paolo Conteh and two others is set to move to State House today, being the scene of the alleged of crime.

The judge, Momojah Stevens and his clerk, all the members of the jury, and three members each from both the defense and prosecution will visit the office of the president, following an application from the defense counsel.

Outrage in Sierra Leone over rape and death of a 5-year-old girl

There has been an outpouring of outrage and consternation on social media over the death of a five-year-old girl as a result of a rape.

An autopsy report says Kadija Saccoh died as a result of complications from injuries she sustained after she had allegedly been raped multiple times.

Her name and image are being used because she is deceased and her family waived off her privacy and supplied us with her photos.

Sierra Leone retires 8 Army Generals

Fourteen senior military officers have been retired from the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF). They include eight Generals among them the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt General Brima Bureh Sesay and the Deputy Chief of Defence Staff, Major General DTO Taluva whose position has now been scrapped.

Six Brigadiers-General, including the head of the Navy, Commodore S. Kanu, have also been retired. The other Brigadiers are M.M Samoura, H.S Jomo, A. Bangura, U. Turay and A.K. Fefegula.
