Police investigate three for "breach" of Public Order in Kenema

The police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in the Eastern region is investigating three people for participating in a public demonstration thereby breaching the Public Order Act.

All three people were arrested by police last weekend. They had since been granted bail. Two of them are staff of the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA); Gareth J. Saffa, an engineer working for the agency in Kailahun District and Mohamed Surbeihun Brima Biaka, also an engineer stationed at its Kenema office.

University of Sierra Leone officially presents homemade ventilators and hand sanitizer to gov’t

The University of Sierra Leone (USL) has presented prototypes of locally invented ventilators and an alcohol based hand sanitizer to the government of Sierra Leone. The innovations were presented to the Ministers of Health and Sanitation and Technical and Higher Education as contributions towards the country’s fight against the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The presentation ceremony was done at a special event held at the Fourah Bay College (FBC) campus of the university on Thursday, 18th June, 2020.

Met warns weather pattern will impact Sierra Leone crop production

The Deputy Director General at the Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency (SLMet), Gabriel Kpaka, has told Politico that the shifting weather pattern in the country will have an impact on the quantity of agricultural yields the country will produce this year.

The revelation is part of their recently launched Seasonal Forecast of the Agro-hydro-climatic characteristics of the rainy season for Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone gets $100 million World Bank grant

Sierra Leone has secured US$100 million grant from the World Bank to support economic resilience in the country. The Board of Directors of the World Bank approved the grant in a meeting on Wednesday, according to a statement from the Bank’s country office.

The statement quoted Country Manager, Martin Gayle, saying: “This financing will help address fiscal challenges and improve overall governance to build resilience and enhance the delivery of services to the people amidst this global COVID-19 pandemic.”

Magistrate Bonnie rejects Blyden’s application

Magistrate Hannah Bonnie in Freetown has ruled that the court has no jurisdiction to determine or interpret the session of the application made by the former Social Welfare minister Dr. Sylvia Blyden for count 7 of the 9 counts against her to be expunged on grounds of timeliness.

Man accused of robbery gets bail

Magistrate Hannah Bonnie has admitted 37 year old Festus Bob, accused of robbery to a Le 100,000,000 bail or two sureties with one owing a property situated in Freetown of not less than Le 500,000,000 value.
