State prosecutors have closed their case in the murder trial of Abdul Kpaka over the death of his girlfriend, Sia Fatu Kamara. The state presented 10 witnesses, and tendered one witness statement along with 28 exhibits in a bid to prove their case against the defendant.

President Julius Maada Bio has called on peddlers of the killer synthetic drug known locally as Kush, and other harmful substance, to “immediately stop”, saying they are profiting from an illicit trade that’s wreaking havoc in the country.

He made the call during his visit to the Government’s Harmful Drug Rehabilitation Facility in Hastings today (30 October, 2025), where he assured recovering victims of his administration’s commitment to ending the sale of harmful drugs.

The Connaught hospital morgue has today been commissioned, making it accessible to the public since its temporal closure two months ago for a massive renovation.

The newly refurbished morgue which forms part of Sierra Leone’s main referral hospital, Connaught was furnished with state-of- the- art machines and other facilities such as three cold rooms, new refrigerators, administrative offices, training center for mortuary attendants, among others. The postmortem unit was also furnished new equipment.

Sierra Leone experiences 733 suicides annually, according to a World Health Organization estimates, with a suicidal rate of 9.7 per 100,000 people.

Mental Health Sierra Leone’s Country Director, Joshua Abioseh Duncan highlighted the figures during a press conference in Freetown, organized by Mental Health Coalition in commemoration of World Suicide Prevention Day on Wednesday September 10, 2025. He said suicidal attempt is an offence in Sierra Leone with the intention to deter people from taking their own life.
