Sierra Leone foreign minister, three leaders to be honoured

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Professor David Francis will join the  Presidents of DR Congo and Zambia Felix Tsheshikedi and Hichelema Hokainde, and Liberia’s Vice President Dr. Jewel H. Taylor in receiving awards  at  the Pan African Leadership Symposium and Honours in Abuja next month.

Prof. Francis and the three other eminent leaders will be decorated with the United Nations SDG Humanitarian Icon of Peace by the UN Peace Governing Council for Africa.

NRA commits to re-strategize revenue generation approach

The National Revenue Authority (NRA) on Saturday 16th July 2022 concluded their Mini Board and Management retreat at The Place Resort - Tokeh. 

According to the authority’s officials, the current Global Economic Events have had an immense impact on the work of the Authority in the last six months but it now seems the NRA has re-strategized its operational approach.

Two women face fraud charges

One Marian Fofanah of Goderich, Freetown appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura yesterday 19th July 2022 to answer two counts of Fraudulent Conversion and Larceny.

The prosecution alleges that between November 2021 and February this year Mariam Fofanah was entrusted with 21 security doors each costing one hundred and forty-seven million Leones (Le 147,000,000), property of one Fatmata Juliana Sillah, which the complainant, converted to her own use and benefit.

Paramount Chiefs to monitor education

In an unprecedented move, the Government of Sierra Leone has supported 190 paramount chiefs with tablets in a bid to monitor the education system in their various localities across Sierra Leone.

According to the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), Dr. David Sengeh, part of the strategy is that the Council of Paramount Chiefs will develop a concept paper on their roles and responsibilities for transforming the education system.

No town chief election in Pujehun since 1980s

Member of Parliament Musa Shiaka Sama from Constituency 104 in Pujehun district has told Politico that the Paramount Chief in his chiefdom, PC. Brima V. S. Kebbie III has never conducted an election for town chiefs in the chiefdom as stated in the Chieftaincy Act 2009, but instead solely appoints them.  

Tambakha Paramount Chieftaincy: P.S calls for peace

The Provincial Secretary for the North-West Region Prince Soriba has reaffirmed the legitimacy of Bambaya ruling house in Tambakha Yobangie Chiefdom in the Karene district while calling on the newly elected Paramount chief to ensure peace reigns within the chiefdom. 

 Soriba was speaking in Sanya town Thambakha chiefdom at a function to formally present Paramount Chief Kandeh Bamba II to his people as tradition demands.
