The Provincial Secretary for the North-West Region Prince Soriba has reaffirmed the legitimacy of Bambaya ruling house in Tambakha Yobangie Chiefdom in the Karene district while calling on the newly elected Paramount chief to ensure peace reigns within the chiefdom.
Soriba was speaking in Sanya town Thambakha chiefdom at a function to formally present Paramount Chief Kandeh Bamba II to his people as tradition demands.
Contrary to the views of some people in the chiefdom opinion by a certain quarter of the chiefdom that the Chief is not from a ruling house, Soriba stressed that Bambaya ruling has been in existence in the chiefdom since in the 1920s. He drew his conclusion from evidence in paragraph 277 of page 866 of Sierra Leone Royale Gazette of 1927 when the Great-Grand Father of the current Chief was elected on August 31, 1927, with the title PC Kandeh Bamba I. He was said to have ruled for 3 years 9 months before he passed away.
He even stated Bamba I in 1927, he was an Alkhalie Kandeh in the chiefdom, a title held by stakeholders that are entitled to the throne of chieftaincy in the chiefdom.
PC Bamba II was elected on the 5th of July, 2021 but was unable to rule his people since then due to a petition case, challenging his legitimacy on the argument that Bambaya house lacked any right to the chieftaincy but ended up winning the case at the High Court of Sierra Leone.
The Petitioners were fined 10 million Leones for wasting the time of the court by not supporting their claims with facts to prove.
He acknowledged the right of every citizen to take to court to prove a point in a situation of dissatisfaction. But he believed that any attempt to challenge the legitimacy of the Bambaya ruling house will fail woefully as the evidence is boldly written in the history books of Sierra Leone
Soriba encouraged the new chief to strengthen peace and unity in his chiefdom to foster development.
In the same vein, he called on the people of Tambakha Yobangie to respect authority and support peace and development.
