Sierra Leone's Minister of Information and Communications says the current global situations exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic and the war between Ukraine and Russia continue to pose challenges to the global oil market, resulting in a shortage in the supply of petroleum products across non-petroleum producing countries.  

Still no bail for LAJ

Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba Road Court No. 1 yesterday denied bail request for musician Alhaji Amadu Bah, popularly known as LAJ, after the defence counsel renewed the bail application which had earlier been denied on procedural grounds.

LAJ was making his 4th court appearance yesterday 30th June 2022 since the commencement of his robbery with violence trial on 20th June 2022.

Sierra Leonean girls want more freedom

Lawyer Ady Macauley has on Wednesday 22nd June 2022 filed a lawsuit against the Inspector General of Police, Ambrose Michael Sovula for allegedly failing to grant bail or bring his clients to court, describing it as “illegal detention of suspects”.

Commonwealth recognises Sierra Leone WW1 fighters

Minister of Defence, Retired Brigadier General Kellie Hassan Conteh has described the recognition of Sierra Leonean fighters in World War 1 by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) in a book titled “book of remembrance” as correcting moral wrongs.

The book contains the names of over 900 Sierra Leonean soldiers who fought and died in World War 1 over one hundred years ago.

Uncertainty over fuel price

Sitting in public transport, there was complete silence as the bus approached a gas station that was very chaotic with cars, tricycles, bike riders and able-bodied men with gallons of different sizes in their hands struggling to access fuel. The sight left the other twenty passengers, driver and apprentice raising questions over the possibility of another increase in the price of fuel.

Girls top primary school-leaving exams in Sierra Leone

Girls have again emerged as the first three best candidates for the just-released results of the 2022 National Primary School Examination (NPSE) in Sierra Leone with one taking the first position and two others sharing the second position.

Similar progress in girls' education was recorded in 2020 with three girls leading the national primary school-leaving examination.
