Nearly 700, 000 new school enrolments in 2019 – new report

The Annual School Census Report has revealed that close to 700, 000 children across in Sierra Leone enrolled in to schools in 2019.

The report which was launched last Friday by the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) revealed that a huge chunk of that number was enrolled in primary schools.

The survey collected data on schools, educational facilities and teacher deployments.

World Bank launches new country partnership for Sierra Leone

The World Bank has announced a new Country Partnership Framework for Sierra Leone.

The charter, which will last for the period 2021-2026, prioritizes investments in human capital, job creation, economic diversification and building a resilient health system.

The Bank, in a statement issued on Friday, June 5, said the framework is aligned with the priorities of the government as contained in its Medium-Term National Development Plan.

Rehabilitation of St Andrews School completed

Construction work on the rehabilitation of one of Sierra Leone’s oldest and iconic institutions of learning - St Andrews Secondary School – has completed, Politico has learnt. 

The school which is located in the southern Bo district received a facelift thanks to the government of Sierra Leone, after being in a state of dilapidation for many years.

The National President of the school’s Old Boys Association, John J. B. Lavalie, expressed thanks and appreciation to the President Julius Maada Bio for the gesture.

New project aims to plant 5 million trees in Sierra Leone

President Julius Maada Bio has launched the National Tree Planting Project which aims to plant five million trees in Sierra Leone in the next four years. The project was launched on Friday, June 5th, to mark the World Environment Day.

Bio launched the new environmental initiative at Motormeh, Regent, the site of one of Sierra Leone’s worst environmental disasters. In August 2017, hundreds of people perished in that location when part of a mountain moved down on them during heavy rains.
