3,040 schools benefit from free quality education in Sierra Leone

Three thousand and forty schools have so far benefitted from the government’s Free Quality Education (FQE) Programme. President Julius Maada Bio upon assuming office in 2018 initiated the education programme that saw an unprecedented number of children enrolled in in government run and assisted schools across the country.

Over 800 widows in Sierra Leone to benefit from business start-up

Osman Koroma, Head of Media and Communication at the Jamil and Nyanga Jaward Foundation (JNJF) has said that over 800 widows are set to benefit from their micro-business start-up scheme.

Koroma told Politico on Friday 29th October this year, that the funding will be provided after successful partnership with other humanitarian organisations.

He disclosed that Adopt-a-Widow is a programme with many packages including a 4 million Leone micro business start-up for widows. 

Land Alliance wants Complaints Committee report made public

A group calling itself the Sierra Leone Land Alliance (SLLA)  has urged the government of Sierra Leone to publish the report of the Land Complaints and Dispute Resolution Committee.  The committee submitted its report to President Julius Maada Bio on Thursday 7 October 2021 but its contents are yet to be made public.

VP urges Local Councils to be creative

The Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has called on Local Councils to be creative and innovative in the generation of revenue. Speaking on Friday 29th October 2021 in Port Loko during the 2nd government and civil society dialogue, he admitted that the government cannot provide for councils all they needed.

Sierra Leone targets school children on alcohol prevention

The Directorate of the Non Communicable Diseases and Mental Health in the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS) has in collaboration with partners held a consultative meeting with school children in  the Western Area on a policy that will help prevent children from alcohol and minimize its consumption among other young people.

The consultative meeting was aimed at encouraging government to develop a policy that will make sure there are measures in place to put a stop to alcohol consumption.
