3,377 schools in Sierra Leone lack toilets - Budget advocacy

Abu Bakarr Kamara from the Budget Advocacy Network says three thousand three hundred and seventy seven schools are without proper toilet facilities in the country. He said this on the 29th October 2021 during the 2nd government and civil society dialogue series in Port Loko.

Bio highlights challenges in climate change actions

President Julius Maada Bio has told the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Scotland that the limited budget resource available in the country could impede Sierra Leone’s efforts at investing in   “climate change actions”. The President who took the podium on the second day of gathering of world leaders and environmentalists to discuss the disconcerting rise in global warming and its portending effects around the world, said the situation  is further compounded for Sierra Leone , being amongst the least developed countries.

Driver stabbed to death after Parade field fight –says witness

A man Alhaji Alpha Rashid, has told Justice Komba Kamanda that it was a fellow nicknamed “Timberland” and four others that stabbed and killed his driver, Ishmael Suma on the 28th August 2016 at Parade Grounds, Central Freetown.

Rashid was testifying as a prosecution witness in a murder matter yesterday 2nd November this year implicating one Sahr David Bindi, Paul Tarawally, Maju Sheriff and Saidu Conteh as accused persons.

Mother throws child in river

One Gbessay Mansaray, 22, has appeared before Justice Komba Kamanda on allegations that she threw her 3-year-old son into a river in the Western Area.Mansaray was arraigned at the Freetown High Court yesterday 2 November to answer to one count charge of murder.

According to the particulars of offence, the young lady was said to have murdered her 3-year-old son on the 22nd August, 2017 in the Western Area of Sierra Leone.

5 in police net for an alleged killing in Gerihun Town By Politico staff writer

Five people have been arrested for the death of 35 year-old  Nabieu Lebbie of Gerihun town , Baoma chiefdom in the Bo district. According to Police Inspector Mohamed Bobson Senu,  earlier reports stated Lebbie was violently shoved leading to his death. An autopsy examination was conducted revealing suspicious findings, reports say.  

The incident happened on the 28th October 2021 when Lebbie was returning home from a bereaved friend’s place at Kailu.

MRCG calls for more protection for journalists

The Media Reform Coordinating Group-Sierra Leone (MRCG-SL) has in a press release called on the government, politicians, media owners and other parties for increased protection of journalists in Sierra Leone.

The call was made yesterday 2 November this year in observance of ‘International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists’.
