DICOVERC staff remanded in prison

Justice Cosmotina Jarrett has sent one Gibrilla Kamara, a District CoronaVirus Response Centre (DICOVERC) mobiliser, on remand at the Pademba Road Correctional Centre.

Kamara appeared together with one Michael Abdulai at the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) section of the High Court in Freetown on Thursday 21 October this year, charged for corruption.

Tormabum starts rice harvesting

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry through the Regional Rice Value Chain Project (RRVCP) has commenced harvesting of 264 hectares of farm rice at Batiwayah in Bum Chiefdom, Bonthe, in Southern Sierra Leone.

The Project says the harvesting this October is among first of many that will follow in other surrounding villages. The Project is also set to commence harvesting in Samu and Mambolo Chiefdoms in the Kambia district after the exercise at Tormabum would have been completed.

Controversy rocks Bo airport project

A senior official of the investment company Africa Gulf Corporation has told the media in Bo that the company decided to start site-clearing the proposed new airport after experiencing “delays, time wasting and too much bureaucracy with people not wanting to talk to us on the project but we are ready to meet the authorities at any time”.

The Corporation’s Head of Communications, Jobson Saffa Momoh said they would “discuss and negotiate as soon as we get responses from those concerned”.

APRM urges good governance in Africa

The Executive Chairman of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) in Sierra Leone, Dr Charles Joezil Silver, has during an interactive session with the media highlighted the need for governments across the African Continent to address issues of poverty, bad governance and violence.

He told the journalists assembled at the Ministry of Information and Communications in Freetown on Wednesday 20th October 2021 that APRM’s aim is to complement the activities of government in addressing those issues.  

Nullify APC Convention - says Sylvia Blyden

Politician and Media Practitioner, Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden has asked Justice Adrian Fisher to nullify the outcome of the All People’s Congress (APC) party Convention held early October in Makeni.

Dr. Blyden argued at the Freetown High Court on Wednesday 20 October this year that the outcome of the said event did not reflect a representation of herself as well the majority of members of the APC.

Sierra Leone lifts ban on State Land dealings

A government moratorium on the lease or sale of State Lands imposed in February this year because of the jumbled nature of the process, has been lifted. A statement from the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Country Planning disclosed that outstanding documents on land administration and management will resume on the 25th October 2021 beginning with Freehold Land issues.

Life imprisonment for Sierra Leone sex offender

Justice Manuela Harding has sentenced a man Thaimu Bangura aged 49- to life imprisonment for sexually penetrating an 11-year-old girl in Freetown.

The judgment was handed on Thursday 21 October 2021 at the Sexual Offences Model Court in Freetown where Bangura was arraigned to answer to a charge of sexual penetration contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act of 2012, as amended in 2019. The crime reportedly occurred last year.
