Assaultive Policeman suspended

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Francis Musa Foday who was shown in a video hitting a man whose one arm had handcuffs around the wrist, has reportedly been suspended.  A letter from the Regional Police Commander South, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Edward Samadia addressed to the officer, stated he was being suspended in accordance with the force’s disciplinary code of 2001.     

Sierra Leone Police denies kidnapping spree

Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police and Director of Crime Services, William Fayia Sellu, has denied the alleged spate of kidnappings that keep circulating on social media.

The AIG was addressing Journalists on Thursday 28th October this year at Police Headquarters in Freetown.

He said the kidnappings reported on social media are false and that those posting such just want to paint a ‘bad picture of Sierra Leone.’

COVID vaccine becomes mandatory in Sierra Leone

The National Corona Virus Response Centre (NaCOVERC) will make taking the COVID-19 vaccine mandatory starting tomorrow for all those accessing public facilities, schools, higher educational institutions, sport venues, and hospitality and entertainment spots.

NaCOVERC made this announcement on Monday 25th October this year.

“This notice applies to on-going festivals, trade fare, exhibitions, entertainment shows, carnivals and related events all over the country,” it notice reads.

3 gang rape suspects in court

Saidu Sesay, Alfred Bangura and Foday Sesay have appeared before Justice Sulaiman Bah at High Court No.2 in Freetown to answer to allegations of raping a businesswoman.

The three men were arraigned on the 25th October this year charged with conspiracy and rape, and who together with other persons unknown committed the crime on 19th October 2018 against the woman whose identity Politico cannot  reveal.

Sierra Leone gets first cocoa factory

The first ever cocoa processing factory to be built in Sierra Leone has been commissioned on Saturday 23rd October 2021 at the Tissor Village in the Kenema District. The cocoa factory is capable to produce 4,000 metric tonnes, enough for the country to export.

Youths restrained over police assault video

Following the release of a video showing a Police Officer assaulting a handcuffed man, youths in Zimmi , a town in Pujehun district where the incident reportedly happened, threatened to cause mayhem but had to be restrained. This was disclosed  by Ward 350 Councilor, Abdul Karim Fofanah, who told  Politico that the incident  on Monday 25th October 2021  sparked so much outrage that they as community leaders,  had to talk to the youths, for them not to take the law into their hands.

12 years imprisonment for penetrating 4-year-old child

The Kabala resident High Court Judge, Justice Abdul Rahman Mansaray has sentenced one Gibril Komba Saffa Conteh to 12 years imprisonment for sexually penetrating a 4-year-old girl.

Conteh was arraigned in court on Saturday 23rd October this year in Mongo Bendugu, Falaba district.

The accused was standing trial on a one count indictment under the Sexual Offences Act of 2012 as amended in 2019.
