Female student sentenced to life for murder in Sierra Leone

Justice John Bosco Allieu has sentenced a young woman, Bernadette Yeama Solomon to life imprisonment for murdering a 4-year-old girl who was in her care.

Solomon, a student dressed in a blue African garb, wept bitterly after the judgment and could hardly walk and had to be held by Prison officers as she staggered down the steep staircase leading to the outside of the court, to be taken to what will be her abode for the rest of life.

Man arrested for insulting Sierra Leone's president

Police have arrested a man called Mohamed Conteh with the alias Osokobana in Makeni on allegations that he insulted President Julius Maada Bio and also made inflammatory statements against the government in an audio message that was circulated on social media.  

This was disclosed by Police Head of Operations, Criminal Investigations Department Francis Ben Lebbie on Thursday 18 October, 2021, at the Police headquarters in Freetown.

SLRSA boss's suspension is illegal- says lawyer

The Company Legal retainer for the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority has commented on the latest suspension of the Authority's Executive Director, Ibrahim Sannoh, describing it as illegal. 

Lawyer Musa Mewa, head of Chambers and Managing Partner at Brewah and Co. made this comment in a letter responding to a request by Ibrahim Sannoh for a legal opinion on his indefinite suspension by the board.

Bike riders riot in Kenema

The Police had to restore order in Kenema on Wednesday 17th November after protesting taxi bike riders attacked personnel and the office of the Sierra Leone Roads Safety Corps in the city, after rumors that a biker running away from arrest died in a crash.

Parliament passes Finance Bill 2022 into law

The Parliament of Sierra Leone has on Wednesday 17th November 2021 debated and passed the Finance Bill 2022 into law. It provides for the amendment of laws relating to the imposition and alteration of taxes, duties, rates, and other related financial matters.

In the new Act, the taxation on the importation of cement has been reduced from 20 to 10 percent and for iron rods, 10 to 5 percent in a bid of reducing their price in the market.
