Sierra Leone Judiciary welcomes MCC report

The Judiciary of Sierra Leone has welcomed the country’s impressive ratings as contained in the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) 2021 scoreboard that looked at control of corruption, civil liberties or political rights, rule of law and others.

President Bio encourages MMTU to meet standards

President Julius Maada Bio has called on the management of the Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU) to meet the standards of its new status. The president made the statement during official inauguration of the university on the 11th November 2021.

 He pointed out that upgrading the institution to a university was an achievement made but reminded the management that it has a great task ahead in discharging the core mandate of a technical university a far daunting task that he challenged them to equal.

Neighbour remanded after ‘penetrating’ a child

Justice Momoh-Jah Stevens has remanded Adams Conteh after the Prosecution alleged that he sexually penetrated a 12-year-old girl.

The State is alleging that the accused penetrated his neighbour’s daughter between the 1st January and 12th August this year.

 State Prosecutor, Musa Pious Sesay Jr. led in the girl as the first prosecution witness.

SS Charity and partners support Sierra Leone fire victims

The Senkoun Sidime (SS) Charity in Guinea has partnered with Jamil and Nyanga Jaward Foundation (JNJF) in Sierra Leone to donate medical supplies to the Wellington fire victims.

Over 3 tons of wound care supplies worth $ 30,000 were handed over to the government on Friday 12th November this year at the Connaught Hospital.

Sierra Leone Judiciary blasts EU

The Judiciary of Sierra Leone has in a press release reacted to a recently released report by the European Union Election Follow-up Mission stating that the confidence level in the judiciary has declined due to the High Court’s 2019 decision to declare elected, the runners up in 10 constituencies at the 2018 elections.

The press statement by the judiciary stated that the institution is not subjected to anyone or authority including the Mission, except the constitution and any other law, according to the 1991 constitution.

Sierra Leone President suspends Auditor General

President Julius Maada Bio has ordered the indefinite suspension of the Auditor General, Lara Taylor-Pearce and one of her deputies, Tamba Momoh.

He has also called for the setting-up of a tribunal to investigate the Audit Service for “professional performance or the lack thereof”.

No further details were given in the skeletal letter received yesterday.

Young Sierra Leonean wins $100,000 award

President Julius Maada Bio has congratulated a young Sierra Leonean innovator who has won himself a $ 100,000 Global student prize 2021, topping more than 3,500 applicants from 94 countries around the world.

21-year-old Jeremiah Thoronka, who invented a device that uses kinetic energy from traffic and pedestrians to generate clean power was announced the winner at a ceremony at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris on Wednesday 10 November 2010.
