SOS Village graces West African girls' summit

Girls from SOS Children’s Village in Sierra Leone joined other girls from across Africa in the Nigerien capital, Niamey for three days of deliberations on ways to eliminate harmful traditional practices.

The event which was organised by the African Union took place at the Mahatma Ghandi Conference Centre from the 16th -18th November, 2021.

Known as the African Girls’ Summit, the event was also streamed live  and attracted a larger audience across the continent.

3 charged with robbery

Three men Ibrahim ‘Alkaline' Conteh, Mohamed Bangura and Mohamed ‘Cartel' Turay have been arraigned before Justice Amy Wright to answer to allegations of robbery with aggravation.

The State counsel, Vivian E. Kabia led in two witnesses on Tuesday 16th November this year to testify against the three accused persons at the High Court in Freetown.

Aberdeen fire disaster leaves many homeless

Another fire incident has on Wednesday 17th November 2021 left many residents of Aberdeen community homeless. The Station Officer at the Aberdeen Fire Station, Foday F. Kamara confirmed to Politico that ten houses were destroyed in the fire.  

Kamara, explained that they got a distress call at around 3 in the afternoon about the incident. He added that the situation would have been more devastating, had it not been for their swift intervention.

Death toll in Sierra Leone fuel tanker fire reaches 144

The death toll from the 5 November fuel tanker accident at Wellington has risen steadily to 144.

According to ministry of health data obtained by Politico over the weekend, 60 of that number died while receiving treatment in hospital, stressing the high degree of burns they had suffered.

The other 84 died at the scene or on their way to hospital.

Saudi King and Crown Prince extend condolences to Sierra Leone fire victims

Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has sent a cable message expressing condolences to all those affected by the Wellington fuel tanker explosion that claimed many lives, and left scores injured.

 The Information Attaché at the Sierra Leone Embassy in Riyadh, Abubakar Bah in a  press release said the Saudi King  expressed deep sympathy to President  Julius Maada Bio, families of the victims and the people of Sierra Leone for the tragic incident, which occurred on Friday 5th November, 2021. 

13 sentenced in Kenema for public disorder

Magistrate Abdul Carew of court no.1 in Kenema has sentenced 13 accused persons on two count charges, for riotous conduct contrary to section 12 (1) of public order Act of 1965, and public disorder contrary to section 12 (1) of 1965.

Contractor charged over killing of girl, 4

Detective Inspector Unisa Tarawally has testified against a building construction contractor Lahai Kamara, 30, for the killing of 4-year-old Ammah Mensah.

The police officer was led in evidence by State Counsel, Joseph A.K. Sesay at the High Court in Freetown.

In his evidence in chief, the Inspector said he was working at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Adonkia, Goderich Division in Western Rural District on the 27th June 201,7 when they received a report about a missing child.
