TI ranks Sierra Leone 115 on Corruption

Transparency International has ranked Sierra Leone 115 out of 180 countries that were surveyed in 2021 for Corruption Perception Index (CPI), this is according to a press release issued by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on the 25th January 2022.  

FBC students react to dress code policy

The authorities at Fourah Bay College (FBC) have banned “indecent” outfits worn by students. A notice issued by the Office of the Warden at FBC was critical of the dress code of particularly female students, and warned of disciplinary action against defaulting students.

Commonwealth to support Sierra Leone Climate Change

The Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland QC has assured of the Commonwealth’s support to Sierra Leone to ensure climate change adaptation and mitigate its effects on the nation.

“We have created the Commonwealth climate finance access hub. We are helping our member states to make successful applications to the green fund and other funds to obtain money for adaptation,” she said.

Calls for action on Street Parking

Pedestrians, drivers, and shop owners have expressed concerns over the difficulties they face as a result of street parking; resulting to traffic congestion and sometimes road crashes in parts of the central business districts of Freetown and therefore calls for swift action.  

New Attorney-General pledges diligent service

The Newly appointed Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mohamed Lamin Tarawalley Esq. has pledged to serve the People of Sierra Leone with the ideals of honour and integrity.

“I am pleased to inform you that I stand on the solid rock of determination and unmatched optimism in the execution of my duties. I shall do my utmost best to justify this trust by upholding the ideals of honours and integrity of this office,” he said.

Court to rule on Samura Kamara, others

The High Court is set to give a ruling on former 2018 elections All People’s Congress (APC) Presidential aspirant, Dr Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara and five others who are standing trial for corruption allegations bordering on the renovation of Sierra Leone’s Chancery Building in New York, United States.

The presiding judge, Justice Adrian Fisher was to adjourn the hearing after one of the lawyers representing Dr. Kamara, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara raised an objection on Friday 21st January this year.
