Transparency International has ranked Sierra Leone 115 out of 180 countries that were surveyed in 2021 for Corruption Perception Index (CPI), this is according to a press release issued by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on the 25th January 2022.
Sierra Leone has in three years been consistent in increasing its score in the Control of Corruption Indicator in the Millennium Challenge Corporation Scorecard moving from 49% in 2017 to 83%, adding that there has been a drastic improvement in other institutions such as Afrobarometer which confirmed corruption in their institution has lessened from 70% in 2015 to 40% low in 2020.
The release stated that Sierra Leone has continued to make progress and leads sixty-four (64) countries in the global campaign against corruption, thirty-two of which are African countries that include Liberia, Togo, Nigeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Mozambique, Guinea, Niger, Zambia, and Kenya.
The release further stated that in this year’s report the corruption cases have been stagnated worldwide, however, Sierra Leone performed better than the average score in sub-Saharan Africa.
The CPI is a survey that is done annually by Transparency International which is considered the leading global civil society watchdog on the global fight against corruption in order to assess the levels of public sector corruption in countries across the world.
ACC continues to assure Sierra Leoneans of their determination to ensure that improve the country’s performance in the sub-regional, Regional and Global anti-corruption governance indices.
