Audit to do a special report on FCC

The Public Account Committee (PAC) of parliament, has ordered the Audit Service Sierra Leone to do a special report on the 2019 financial report on the Freetown City Council (FCC) within one month to ascertain why the audit service was constrained in auditing the council’s Transform Freetown Projects.

Correctional Service Receives Utility Vehicles

The Sierra Leone Correctional Service (SLCS) has received 22 vehicles from the government of Sierra Leone to ameliorate the ‘acute shortage of vehicles’ in most correctional centres in the country.

The category of vehicles received by the SLCS include: three Ambulances, six Pick-up Trucks, two Sports Utility Vehicles and eleven Trucks.

SLRSA Prohibits 143 Vehicles`

The Sierra Leone Roads Safety Authority (SLRSA) has prohibited 143 derelict vehicles from transporting goods from the Sierra Leone Ports Authority, quoting section 5 of the Road Traffic Act of 2007. The prohibition exercise was witnessed by executive members of the Sierra Leone Indigenous Transport Owners Association, the Sierra Leone Police, and the Management of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority.

$138,000 recovered from the Chancery building

The Anti-Corruption Commission ACC has recovered $138,000 (one hundred and thirty-eight thousand dollars from an entity called Etic Sarl’s that was established in Sierra Leone by three non-Sierra Leoneans. The recovery is in relation to the corruption investigations of the Chancery Building in Manhattan in New York City says Emmanuel Koivaya Amara, Coordinator of Operations at the ACC.

SDRs BAN to hold government accountable

Budget Advocacy Network (BAN) and other civil society organisations are set to hold the government accountable for the implementation of the 283 million dollars for Special Drawing Rights (SDRs).

SDR is an international reserve asset created by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that are disbursed to countries during global crisis like pandemic and it is based on the quota a country has contributed to the IMF that will determine the amount of money it will receive.

Judiciary to handle cases of prisoners without indictment

The Master and Registrar of the High Court of Sierra Leone Elaine Thomas-Archibald has informed pressmen of the special judicial week created by Chief Justice Desmond Babatunde Edwards to handle all cases of prisoners without indictment. She said this during the weekly government press briefing on the 20th January 2022 at the Ministry of Information and Communication.

Sierra Leone sacks Attorney General

President Julius Maada Bio has sacked the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Anthony Brewah. He is replaced with Mohamed Lamin Tarawally according to a public notice from the office of the President on Tuesday 18th January this year.
