64% of Sierra Leonean women in public life experience harassment

Media trainer Mariama Sowe has said that research conducted by the Sierra Leone Association of Women in Journalism (SLAWIJ), found that 64% of women consulted admitted that they have been harassed. She made this statement on the 2nd of September 2022 during a day’s Safe Sister Training on digital safety for female journalists in Freetown.

Sierra Leoneans divided over August 10 Protest - IGR report

The Institute for Governance Reform (IGR) has launched a perception survey report called Sierra Poll, focusing on the causes of the anti-government protests on August 10 and how to manage or prevent the right to protest in the future.

The report presented on Thursday 1st of September 2022 at the IGR's headquarters in Freetown, clearly states that Sierra Leoneans are deeply divided over the motivations for and meaning of the said protest.

Schools reopen today in Sierra Leone

US, partners to light up Sierra Leone health centres

In an effort to improve access to electricity in 31 health facilities located in remote areas of Sierra Leone, the United States Government and partners are set to power up 31 health centres in remote communities of Sierra Leone through the Health Grid project.

Speaking at a press briefing on the project and other US-sponsored programmes in the country on the 31st of August, the US Ambassador to Sierra Leone David Reimer expressed optimism that the installations will be completed this year.

The outgoing 3 Infantry Brigade Commander on Friday 2nd August 2022 handed over office to his successor; Brigadier General AS Bockarie at a ceremony held at the 3 Infantry Brigade Headquarters in Murry Town.

 The outgoing Commander, Major General D Alpha received a Quarter Guard Parade after which he officially handed over the 3Brigade flag of office to his successor.

3 remanded for Angola Town robbery

Magistrate Isata Sellu-Tucker of Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown has remanded Sorie Turay, Abubakarr Sesay alias “Cartel”, and Rashid Rogers alias “Shylion” for allegedly robbing Fayia Moseray of money and properties worth thousands of the new Leone currency. 

The accused persons appeared before the court to answer to charges of robbery with aggravation, conspiracy, felony, wounding, wounding with intent, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm country to laws of Sierra Leone.
