In a bid to ensure the safety and security of journalists in the execution of their professional duties, the Media Reform Coordinating Group (MRCG) and partners have finalized the draft Policy on the Safety of Journalists in Sierra Leone.

The Rice Agro-Industrial Cluster (RIAC) unit of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is set to empower Njala University to become the centre of the production of rice threshers and other rice processing equipment.

This is according to a newsletter from the Ministry of Agriculture, published on the 29^th of August, this year.

Following an objection of a search warrant document tendered in the matter involving seven accused persons charged for committing public order offences during the parliamentary bye-election at Sambaia Bendugu in Tonkolili district, Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Pademba Road Court No. 1 has ruled that the said document be used in court.

The United Nations (UN) human rights experts have urged the Government of Sierra Leone to establish a comprehensive set of legal prohibitions against the practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) for the safety of women and girls in Sierra Leone. 

The call came from the office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights following the death of a 21-year-old student who was reportedly subjected to FGM in Bonthe district, southern Sierra Leone.
