Sierra Leone chiefs to develop byelaws to combat hate speech

Paramount Chiefs (PCs) from the North and North-west regions of Sierra Leone have warned  residents in their various towns, chiefdoms, and villages that they will commit to disown any one of their people preaching hate against other tribes as they prepare to develop byelaws against such acts.

Bikers, Police and SLRSA in Civic dialogue

Members of the Bike Riders Union in the Western Area have meet with senior Traffic Police Officers and the leadership of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) in Freetown to forge a common ground in their day to day interaction.

The meeting organised by the National Council for Civic Education and Development (NaCCED) was to help bridge mistrust, and foster friendly working relationship between Commercial Bikers, Traffic Police officers and Traffic Wardens.

End of an era, as Britain's Queen Elizabeth II dies

The woman who embodied the United Kingdom for generations died yesterday - 9 September. Aged 96. 

On the throne for seventy years, Queen Elizabeth II passed away exactly 17 months since her husband, Prince Philip, died on 9 April 2021. He was 99. 

The longest-serving monarch in British history visited Sierra Leone just five years on the throne in 1957. She is to be succeeded by her son, who will be known as King Charles III. He described the passing of his mother as a “moment of great sadness [which will be] deeply felt” around the world.

Paramount chiefs from the Eastern and Southern parts of Sierra Leone have called on fellow chiefs and people of the country to discourage the spread of tribal hate messages against each other, especially on social media, for the sake of peace and stability.

Kenema Chief granted bail over vehicle defraud case

Magistrate Mark Ngegba of the Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown has granted a one hundred and fifty thousand Leones (NLe 150,000) bail to Town Chief, Alhaji Ansumana Kallon, from Belebu village in Kenema district charged for allegedly defrauding Augustine Ansumana Gamoh, a lecturer at Fourah Bay College (FBC), University of Sierra Leone.

Pupil calls for disabled kids to replace begging with education

A visually impaired student from Saint Joseph’s  Secondary School, Ann Marie Keita has drawn President Julius Maada Bio’s attention to children living with a disability that she said are in the street begging for alms.

The girl made the call during the president’s engagement with pupils from various backgrounds at State House on Wednesday.

She said such children should be given the opportunity to be educated, and also mentioned the problem of teachers not paying much attention to them due to their working conditions.
