NCD highlights challenges with voter registration

The National Commission for Democracy (NCD) has in a sensitization tour across the country expressed concern over a number of hitches in some voter registration centres in parts of the country.

A report by the commission highlighted shortage of voter- update receipt books, inadequate shelter, problem with identification of first-time voters, and some technical challenges with the machines. 

Cervical cancer vaccine arrives in Sierra Leone

The Sierra Leone government will be rolling out the cervical cancer vaccine (HPV) on the 3 October 2022, targeting 10-year-old girls only.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Focus 1000, Mohamed Bailor Jalloh said the vaccine would be rolled out to prevent girls from being affected by the dangerous disease.

NEW urges patience over voter registration in Sierra Leone

The National Elections Watch (NEW) has called on the public to be patient with the current anomalies encountered in the ongoing voter registration process, noting that they will engage the Electoral Commission Sierra Leone (ECSL) for immediate action.    

“NEW encourages the public to exercise patience as we engage the ECSL and other stakeholders to address the current challenges with the registration equipment,” a press statement updating the public about their observation of the process reads in part.

NCRA warns against fake identity cards as Sierra Leone registers voters

The National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) has warned citizens to stop presenting fake identity documents including birth certificates and NCRA citizenship certificates to register for the upcoming elections.

The documents allegedly being falsified are those required by the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) for someone to be eligible to register. 

A notice issued by NCRA said they have engaged ECSL on attempts being made by some people to use fake documents to go through the registration exercise.

Njala scientists in South Africa on livestock training

Representatives from Njala University College (NUC) are currently in South Africa, participating in a joint project on Artificial Insemination.

The three-month scientific fellowship is courtesy of the Agricultural Research Council, Biotechnology Platform (ARC-BTP), and is aimed at boosting livestock productivity in Sierra Leone.

According to a press statement from the Public Relations Department of NUC, the training which includes scientific visitations is conducted by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
