Sierra Leone gets more disease detectives

Thirty-five Sierra Leoneans on the 29th of August 2022 graduated as Disease Detectives from Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP), according to a Press Statement from the United States Embassy in Freetown.

The training which was done by the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS) in collaboration with the United States Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was organized in a bid to increase the number of public health leaders in the country. 

Sierra Leone brings back Civics in schools

Chairman of the National Council for Civic Education and Development (NaCCED), Kalilu Ibrahim Tutangay has disclosed during the training of trainers in Bo that Civic Education will be taught in schools across the country in September this year.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman Tutangay said when President Julius Maada Bio was campaigning; he promised to bring back Civic Education as a subject in Schools. He said the subject used to be in schools but has been missing out for many years.

Bad parenting caused arrests of juveniles

The Minister of Social Welfare, Baindu Dassama, has said the arrest of the 24 children during the 10th August violent protest was a result of bad parenting.

She made this assertion at the Ministry of Information and Communications weekly press briefing hall in Freetown on Tuesday 30th August 2022, while giving an update about the decision by the government to release the children before the start of the new school year.

Sewa Grounds market ready in four months

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Edward Hingha Sandy on the 29th of August 2022 promised traders that the Sewa Grounds market will be available on the 1st of January 2023.

Sandy during a programme organized to update the public on the progress of the ongoing construction project, explained that the structures will be done by December and that by the 1st of January 2023, the traders who are mostly selling on the streets, will be able to relocate there.  

4 granted bail on robbery, others

Principal Magistrate, Mark Ngegba of Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown has granted bail to Amadu Bello Mohamed Tholley, Augustine Korfuma alias “Councilor”, Boibe Gibnia Conteh, and Daniel Samura alias “One Man Geng” who were before the court to answer to charges of conspiracy, robbery with aggravation, assault, and carrying offensive weapons without lawful authority contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

Liberian Coach of a Sierra Leone club dies after match

The Head Coach of Bombali Shebora Football Club, David Paul is said to have died on the night of Sunday 28th August 2022 hours after his team had lost 2-1 to Edmond Michael Foundation (EMF) in the opening match of the ongoing Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) National playoffs.

Coach Paul was said to have guided the team to the Leocem FA Cup quarter-final stage in 2014.

The cause of death is yet to be determined after Paul was pronounced deceased by doctors at the Kenema Government Hospital.
