After having gone through the nomination process, guidelines, key steps and requirements of candidates, the Western Area Football Association (WAFA) has disqualified Abdul Barrie and Noel Kitami Horton who were vying for the Chairmanship position of the Association.
The disqualification was made public in a press release issued by WAFA on the 26th June, 2023.
The WAFA Elections Committee Members vetted all applications submitted on and after the deadline dates of 14th June, 2023 and conducted interview on them on the 20th June, 2023.
During the interview process, the committee found out that Barrie’s nominator did not date the application form at the time of which the nomination form was submitted. It also found out that both Brrokfields United FC and Murray Town FC Sports Club were in contravention of the requirements set forth on the nomination process.
It also revealed that the application form submitted by Barrie was incomplete and that he did not answer the entire screening process section of the application form which he accepted.
The committee therefore unanimously reached a decision that Barrie’s application was invalid and he ineligible, having not satisfied all the requirements for the WAFA Chairman position.
Horton who was also vying for the Chairman position was disqualified because the elections committee found out that both Luawa FC and Regent Olympic Football contravened the requirements set forth on the nomination process. It also discovered that the application package submitted was incomplete, without a police clearance to support the screening process section and he was said to have accepted his faulty application. He was also said to have submitted his application package after the due date and time.
The committee therefore agreed that Horton’s application form was invalid and he was ineligibl.
The WAFA election Committee ended up accepting Philip Buck’s application and pronounced him Chairman of the Association after meeting the election committee’s guidelines.
