Sierra Leone's Press Attachés re-assigned

Amidst uncertainty caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, the Sierra Leone Government has reassigned 24 Press and Information Officers recently appointed to serve in the country’s foreign missions abroad.

The information officers, also known as Press Attaches, will be attached to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) across the country, according to a directive by the Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC).

Rainstorm displaces scores of residents in southern Sierra Leone

Scores of people have been left homeless in Sorogbema Chiefdom, Pujehun District, after a heavy rain storm blew across the chiefdom on Friday 5th June.

Witnesses say homes, schools and community centers were destroyed in towns like Jendema, Kpakala, Tindor, Wai, Fairo, Gonohun, Findoh, Maina, Juring Kulangor, Fanga and Zimmi.

A Councilor in Ward 357 in the chiefdom, Francis Ngele, explained to Politico the situation and level of destruction.

Brussels Airlines unveils Freetown flight plan

Brussels Airlines has announced plans to start flying to Sierra Leone in July this year. In a statement last Wednesday, the Belgian carrier stated that the plan is subject to the approval of the Sierra Leone government.

Nearly 700, 000 new school enrolments in 2019 – new report

The Annual School Census Report has revealed that close to 700, 000 children across in Sierra Leone enrolled in to schools in 2019.

The report which was launched last Friday by the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) revealed that a huge chunk of that number was enrolled in primary schools.

The survey collected data on schools, educational facilities and teacher deployments.

World Bank launches new country partnership for Sierra Leone

The World Bank has announced a new Country Partnership Framework for Sierra Leone.

The charter, which will last for the period 2021-2026, prioritizes investments in human capital, job creation, economic diversification and building a resilient health system.

The Bank, in a statement issued on Friday, June 5, said the framework is aligned with the priorities of the government as contained in its Medium-Term National Development Plan.
