Heal-Sierra Leone designs innovative e-learning platform

The campaign group Heal Sierra Leone (HSL) has designed an innovative e-learning platform for secondary and tertiary education in the country.

The platform is integrated with the social media site Facebook, through which teaching sessions will be broadcast live.

Executive Director of the organization, Joseph Sannoh, told Politico that the platform is the future of education in the country in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic.

President Bio commends Sierra Leone's civil registration Authority

President Julius Maada Bio has praised the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) for its work in trying to develop a digital registry for Sierra Leone.

President Bio singled out the NCRA for praise during his speech at the States Opening of Parliament last week. Whiles recognizing what the institution has done, Bio also urged cooperation from the public for NCRA’s work to go smoothly.

Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has used his State Opening address to Parliament to announce new plans for the year ahead.

This is his third address to the House since he took over as President in 2018, and it comes after what has been described as a torrid year in his presidency not least with the Covid-19 pandemic and recent violent disturbances.

“Murder” victim tests positive for Covid-19 in Sierra Leone

Controversy has emerged in Kenema after the corpse of a woman who was allegedly murdered by her husband tested positive for COVID-19.

Sarah Conteh was allegedly killed by Alie Jalloh in Deima Town, Kandu Leppiama Chiefdom. Police say the incident occurred on May 15.

Sergeant James Musa, police spokesperson for the district, said the suspect killed his wife in the bush after they had some disagreement.

Calls mount to relocate treason trial of Sierra Leone opposition politician

Public concern over the gridlock caused by heavy security during hearings in the ongoing treason trial of former Defense Minister, Major (Rtd) Paolo Conteh, has intensified, amidst calls for the venue to be relocated.

Conteh is on trial for alleged attempted assassination of President Julius Maada Bio. Justice Alhaji Momoh Jah Stevens of the High Court in Freetown is presiding over the case which holds at the main court building on Siaka Steven Street.
