Sierra Leone chiefs get 150% pay rise

The Government of Sierra Leone has announced a 150% increase in the remuneration of local authorities such as Paramount Chiefs, Regent Chiefs, Chiefdom Speakers and other chiefdom functionaries, as well as Western Area Tribal Headmen.

The increment, according to a press statement from the Ministry of Finance, takes effect from April this year. It said the move was in line with the government’s strategy to improve on chiefdom governance and strengthen chiefdom councils.

Randy Skaikay docked again

Randa Skaikay, a former employee of businessman Ali Abess, was arraigned before Justice Momoh Jah Stevens of the High Court in Freetown on Monday to answer to a two-count, fresh indictment of larceny in a dwelling house and larceny by servant after an earlier case was dismissed by another judge on grounds of ‘‘defective indictment.’’

Concerns over abandoned vehicles at Kenema Gov’t Hospital

The Secretary for the Kenema Government Hospital, Foday Saffa, has expressed concern over the lack of interest in addressing the issue of the fleet of stationary vehicles within the compound of the hospital. Saffa told politico that all the vehicles were believed to have mechanical problems and have been there for a long time. He said a meeting was some time ago arranged between the hospital management and the district health management team to discuss about the vehicles but that the meeting itself was inconclusive on what to do with them.

Love One Another campaign trains 30 peace ambassadors

The Love One Another Campaign (LOAC), a Christian organization that champions the message of love and peace, has ended a one-day training for 30 Peace Ambassadors at the Council of Churches (CCSL) Hall, King Harman Road in Freetown.

The training, authorities say, was precipitated by a ‘‘thorough research’’ by LOAC, which discovered that Sierra Leoneans have demonstrated very little love for one another.

Sierra Leone FA makes mass recruitment for national teams

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has appointed 48 people in different technical positions for all levels of the country's national teams. Coaches and other staff were appointed for different categories of the male and female national sides.
Secretary General of the FA, Christopher Kamara said these appointments were in line with an agreed structure designed to set up the national teams for success in the future.

Landmark ruling as Sierra Leone court bans soap maker

The Sierra Leone government has secured a landmark ruling against the Bo-based soap manufacturer, Kabakudu, accused of violating environmental protection laws thereby endangering the health and wellbeing of the people.

Eleven officials and workers of Kabakudu Soap Making Factory were convicted and sentenced on Friday at the Bo Magistrate Court.

The Kabakudu Soap is locally produced from sodium hydrochloride which environmentalists say has significant health risks on people and the environment.
