Sierra Leone Drivers’ Union boss gets presidential appointment

President Julius Maada Bio has appointed the President of the Sierra Leone Drivers and General Transport Workers Union, Alpha Amadu Bah, to the Board of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA).

Bah's appointment comes weeks after some row between his office and the Authority over who was the legitimate authority to handle the issuance of passenger manifest. That disagreement led to the SLRSA announcing the suspension of Mr Bah from the board.

Two victims of Makeni riot laid to rest

The remains of two men allegedly killed by security forces during the violence in the city of Makeni last month have been buried. The victims were among five people that reportedly died in a confrontation between the security forces and youths in the city, after Ministry of Energy and Power officials decided to transfer a standby power plant there to Lungi, in an effort to improve electricity supply around the international airport area.

Native Consortium calls for investment into the hospitality industry

Native Consortium and Research Center (NCRC) has called on the government of Sierra Leone to prioritize the hospitality industry in its implementation of the $40million World Bank (WB) grants for Small and Media Enterprises (SMEs) in the country.

The World Bank recently announced the support under its SMEs Investment and Economic Diversification scheme geared towards boosting investment and access to capital.

Njala welcomes over 200 into distance-learning programme

Nyala University has matriculated 211 new students who have gained admission into the college for the 2020/2021 academic year.

The ceremony, which was held on Thursday 5th August 2020, marks the official welcoming and conclusion of the admission process for students who have enrolled for distance learning programmes in Teachers Certificate, Higher Teachers Certificate, Bachelor’s Degree and Post Graduate deploma in Education.
