Sierra Leone students struggle in China

Dozens of Sierra Leonean graduate students are said to be living under extremely reduced circumstances in China leaving in doubt the successful completion of their programmes.

The President of the Sierra Leone Students’ Union in the Asian country has written to Politico to complain about the plight of more than thirty of his colleagues said to be struggling to feed and meet other financial commitments as they pursue their courses.

Covid19 responders down tools in Pujehun

Health workers at the Pujehun Covid-19 treatment center say they have stopped working because they have not been paid their weekly hazard allowances since they started working there in May.

A spokeswoman for the group, who cannot be named, said those affected were one medical doctor, nine nurses, four cleaners, two sprayers, one community health officer, four cooks and one data entry clerk.

Sierra Leone Embassy in Guinea hosts NPSE exams

The premises of the Sierra Leone Embassy in Guinea was one of the examination centers that hosted this year’s National Primary School Examinations (NPSE) which was held on Monday 3rd August.

The Chancery Building in Kipe, a suburb of the Guinean capital, Conakry, hosted 350 Sierra Leonean pupils who had been attending English schools in the French speaking country.

The NPSE marks the completion of Primary School education in Sierra Leone. Students who pass the examination proceeds to Secondary School.

Bio meets Cuban medics in Sierra Leone to help fight Covid19

A group of 16 medical doctors and nurses, who are part of the Cuban Medical Team in Sierra Leone, have met with President Julius Maada Bio.

The meeting which was held at State House in Freetown was meant to introduce the medics who were deployed into the country to help its respond to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The team, accompanied by the Cuban Cuban Charge’d’ affairs in Sierra Leone, were presented to the President by Minister of Health and Sanitation, Professor Alpha Tejan Wurie.

UK hails Libel Law repeal in Sierra Leone

The UK Minister for Africa has congratulated the Minister of Information and Communication of Sierra Leone, Mohamed Rahman Swaray, following the vote by parliament in Freetown to repeal Part V of the Public Order Act and the passing of the new Independent Media Commission Act.

Fake US dollar bills in circulation in Sierra Leone - Police say

The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has warned of fake US Dollar in circulation across the country and called on the public to beware while transacting in the currency.

The police in a statement issued on Monday said they were investigating the development.

“In view of this, the SLP would like to advise everyone to exercise maximum precaution when transacting in United States' currency notes,” the police statement said.
