Family of alleged murder victim cry for justice

The family of Edmond Alpha, who was allegedly murdered in Batiyaima Layout in Bo, southern Sierra Leone, has called for speedy investigation and justice on the matter.

Alpha’s body was discovered in a toilet pit on the 14th of August this year. His family believe that he was beaten and killed before been dumped in the abandoned toilet pit, after he was allegedly chased and shouted at as a thief at by the husband of one Mrs. Mamie Tamaeko.

CSOs warn gov't against trivializing Polytech strike

A civil society organization in Kenema has warned the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education against trivializing the strike action of lecturers of the Eastern Polytechnic.

In an engagement with the aggrieved lecturers, CSO leaders in the district warned that government's complacency could have a major impact on education in the region.

Regional Coordinator of Peoples Power Movement, Patrick Adu, said: “From our findings, government has not done anything to address the concerns of the lecturers.”

MMCET & Belvedere sign student capacity enhancement agreement

The All Political Parties Association (APPA) has in a press statement called on all registered political parties to condemn and disassociate themselves openly from incitement and hate speech. The statement which was released last week reminded political parties of their commitment to a communiqué that was signed last year by 12 of the 17 registered to political parties to promote national cohesion.

Growing condemnation of hate speech in Sierra Leone

The Civil Society Consortium on Community Accountability and Service Delivery has added its voice to growing condemnation of hate speech and violent rhetoric which has been rising over the last few weeks.

In a press conference in Kenema over the weekend, the consortium expressed fears that hate speech spread by extremist supporters of rival political parties constituted a threat to national security.

Chief Minister, Professor David Francis, has told political appointees who hail from Kenema District that President Julius Maada Bio will not be blamed if Kenema is not developed because he has appointed a lot of people to national positions who are from the district.

Professor Francis was speaking to political stakeholders over the weekend, where he urged them to “step up” with development efforts in the district.
