In this edition of the Interview, Mohamed Jaward Nyallay talks to the recently appointed head of the National Electoral Commission, Mohamed Kenewui Konneh.

Konneh was appointed by President Julius Maada Bio last July, taking over from Mohamed N’fa Alie Conteh, who served one term. Konneh went through a fiercely contested confirmation hearing which saw his nomination approved through voting by Members of Parliament, with 78 voting in favor, against 51 opposition votes on July 29th

A 17 year old girl who was writing the West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) on Tuesday, 26th August suddenly went in to labor pain whiles waiting to write her second examination of the day.

The girl who attends the Ansarul Islamic Secondary School in Freetown had just written the Oral exams for English Language and was waiting to write Health Science when she suddenly burst in to tears whiles in clear agony, eyewitnesses told Politico.

Heavy downpour in Sierra Leone capital leaves 60 homeless

The 25 August heavy down pour in Freetown left over 60 residents in the Portee Community in the eastern part of the capital city homeless, Politico has gathered.

Residents and affected people say the heavy downpour led to the destruction of five houses.

The affected area, which falls within Ward 409 of Constituency 116, was in 2019 declared by the Office of National Security (ONS) as one of the disaster prone areas in the city, yet, apparently, little or no effort was made to evacuate the people.
