MRU boosts Stats Sierra Leone

In a bid to support the government of Sierra Leone to successfully conduct the proposed 2020 mid-term population and housing census, the Mano River Union (MRU) secretariat in Freetown has presented one HP Design jet post script e-printer designed to produce high quality maps. 

2nd Malaria media coalition meeting held in Sierra Leone

The second Malaria Media Coalition (MMC) meeting ended in Freetown on Tuesday, September 1, with pledges of recommitment to ending transmission of the parasitic disease in the country.

The event held at the Catco International Hotel in the west end of Freetown brought together over 50 journalists from across the country.

The suspended Labour and Social Security Minister, Alpha Timbo, has said he is his happy to be back in cabinet, after he was reinstated to his position.

Timbo’s reinstatement came after he was recently acquitted and discharged by a High Court following allegation of corruption against him.

As 15-year-old testifies, shocking allegations at the rape trial of a Sierra Leonean politician

A 15-year old pupil who is alleged to have been sexually penetrated multiple times by the leader of the National Democratic Alliance Party Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray testified last Friday before Justice Samuel O. Taylor at the sexual offenses division of the High Court in Freetown.

The witness described herself as a JSS 3 pupil and recognized the accused persons, identifying the second accused, Marion Harouni as her aunt whom she used to stay with in Kono.

NGC calls on Sierra Leone Govt to address economic hardship

The opposition National Grand Coalition (NGC) party has referenced the survey on the country’s economy by the Pan-African Afrobarometer research network to highlight a number of concerns with regards to the increase in the prices of basic food items and called for serious government action to reverse the trend.

A statement from NGC says there is a steady increase in the prices of food items with no corresponding increase in income. 

Makeni gets Covid-19 laboratory

The northern region of Sierra Leone has got its first biosafety laboratory with the inauguration over the week of the first Covid-19 testing lab in Makeni.

Minister of Health and Sanitation, Prof. Alpha T. Wurie, presided over the symbolic inauguration ceremony hosted at the Wusum Hotel in Makeni City.

Officials say the lab will enhance the country’s covid-19 response effort, thereby reducing turnaround time for testing for districts in the northern region.

Investigator testifies in Kadija murder trial

Detective Sergeant 10745 Joy Mariama Kargbo, attached to the Criminal Investigations Department, Lumley policy station has testified before Magistrate Mark Ngegba in the ongoing preliminary investigations into alleged murder of a five year-old girl.
