Milton Margai College of Education and Technology (MMCET) and a company called Belvedere SL Ltd., have cemented a cooperation agreement in the form of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will see the two parties exchange ideas on skilled based training, education, research and development.
The College’s Principal, Dr. Philip John Kanu and Belvedere’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Patrick M. Kormawa, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective establishments. The agreement is expected to promote the effective use of each other’s resources and provide them with enhanced opportunities.
Belvedere is engaged in stabilized soil block production, housing, research, skills development and education, and its new relationship with MMCET will ensure the two institutions establish channels of communication and cooperation that will promote and advance their respective operations.
The two will facilitate effective utilization of the intellectual capabilities of the college, thereby providing significant inputs toward the development of suitable training systems, bearing in mind the needs of Belvedere. The company would in turn provide valuable inputs to the college in the area of training methodology and a customized curriculum that would enable students fit into the industrial working world.
The students, upon graduating from the college, would eventually be able to be competitive and play a key role in innovation.
Dr. Kanu, reacting following the signing of the MoU, expressed his desire to see the students be more involved in practical work so that they can gain the necessary skills to fix machines, construct bridges and houses, after they would have graduated. He promised the college’s full cooperation to the contents of the agreement, noting that the College Council had been duly informed about the development.
Belvedere’s Dr. Kormawa spoke about his company’s provision of affordable housing for the people of Sierra Leone and assured the students of available opportunities for them to do their practical work and internships at the company.
