Kailahun gets first ever fire station

Kailahun District has got its first ever fire station with the inauguration of the facility by President Julius Maada Bio.

The inauguration ceremony took place on November 21. Welcoming the entourage, Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Sylvester Momoh Taluva, expressed gratitude to the President and his government for providing the eastern district with the first fire station.

According to the 2015 census, Kailahun District has a population of 525,372.

Sierra Leone to clamp down on IUU, corruption in fishing sector

Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has announced plans to expand on the fishery sector and counter the perennial problem of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing facing the country.

Bio made the announcement while launching a set of equipment for sustainable fisheries management at Murray Town, last week. The president disclosed that his government inherited a fisheries and marine resources sector that was riddled with corruption and mismanagement.

Bauxite miner promises Kambia District

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Supreme Minerals Corporation, a new bauxite mining company in Kambia District, northern Sierra Leone, has promised developmental projects for the district.

Mallik Chennam made this commitment during the ceremony for the payment of the company’s surface rent for the mining project in the district to the community people.

PPRC engages Political Parties in Kenema

The Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC), with support from the National Democratic Institute (NDI), has engaged political parties in discussion of issues of the country’s governance system.

Addressing the political parties representatives at the meeting held at Peace Garden in Kenema, the chairman of PPRC, Abdulla Masiyambay Bangura, explained that the platform is created by the commission for inter-parties’ dialogue for all political parties on a monthly basis.

Le 5 billion for youth empowerment in Sierra Leone

The Minister of Youth Affairs, Mohamed Orman Bangura, has disclosed that the Sierra Leone government has approved the sum of Le5billion for the Youth Empowerment Fund, which is geared towards youths development.

Mr Bangura made this disclosure on Thursday, 26th November, at the government’s weekly press briefing hosted by the Ministry of Information and Communication.

Man remanded for larceny

Preliminary investigations have continued before Magistrate Mark Ngegba in Freetown into a one-count charge of shop breaking and larceny brought up against Alhaji Tunis Bangura.

Suspect and Complainant argue over land transaction

Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Pademba road court no 2 has ordered that one Santigie Mansaray be remanded in custody over an allegation that he illegally sold a land that never belonged to him.

 Mansaray allegedly sold the land at Rokel village outside of Freetown to one Yusif Mansaray, a property that is alleged to be owned by the headman of the said village.
