Sierra Leone president launches new gender policy

Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio on Thursday officially launched a new gender policy, designed to serve as a reference point for addressing gender issues, including inequalities, in Sierra Leone.

The objective of the document, according to officials, is to mainstream gender into all the national sectorial and local policy plans, budgets and programmes, to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment in all spheres of development in the country.

Family charged for insulting conduct

Fayarah Tarawally testified at the Freetown court no. 2 that he and his family were abused by a James Gborie and family with whom they live in the same compound.  

SLAWIJ marks 16 Days of Activism in schools

The Sierra Leone Association of Women in Journalism (SLAWIJ) has joined the global campaign against gender based violence with activities on the 16 Days of Activism in schools.

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an international campaign to challenge violence against women and girls. The campaign runs every year from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day.

Njala joins FBC in lecturers’ strike

Sierra Leone commissions 50 Dump Trucks

The trucks, according to officials, will improve the waste management system in the country, which has posed environmental and health hazards for the country.

Palo gets partial victory
