KKY questions about Sierra Leone Govt spending

Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, Member of Parliament for Constituency 062, has questioned governments' continued hiring and increasing spending on an economy that has been projected to decline.

Yumkella raised this concern to the Deputy Minister of Finance I, Dr. Patricia Nyanga Laverley, during the final day of debate for the Appropriation Bill 2021 at the well of parliament on Wednesday, 25th November.

Parliament summons Sierra Leone Mines Minister

The Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources, Musa Timothy Kabba, has been summoned by the House of Parliament to explain the decline in mining revenues to the state.

This decision came at the request of the chairman of the parliamentary oversight committee on Mines, Saa Emerson Lamina, who is the leader of the Coalition for Change (C4C) party in the House representing Constituency 030 in Kono District. He made the comment during the debate on the bill titled: the 2021 Appropriation Act.

Sierra Leone: Scholarship scheme for female journalists launched

Women in the Media Sierra Leone (WIMSAL), an organization established to advocate and seek the welfare of female journalists in Sierra Leone, has launched a scholarship scheme for female journalists across the country.

The scheme, according to the leadership of the organization, is geared towards empowering female journalists with the requisite academic training and qualifications that can help them take their space in their male dominated profession.

President Bio launches skills development fund

Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio last week presented a cheque for over Le 9 billion as part of funding for the newly established Skills Development Fund. The fund, according to the presidency, will initially benefit over 1,660 citizens in the two eastern districts of Kenema and Kailahun.

The initiative, according to officials, is designed to support middle-level manpower through technical education.

It was launched during the president’s visit to Kailahun last week, November 23.
