Sierra Leone Bar Association commends reforms in the judiciary

A cross-section of the leadership of the Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA) headed by its President, Madam Eddinia Michaela Swallow has commended the Chief Justice of the Republic of Sierra Leone Desmond Babatunde Edwards on the massive reforms ongoing at the Judiciary under his leadership.

She made the commendation during her first visit to the judiciary and the Chief Justice since his appointment, on Wednesday 3rd December 2020 at the Law Courts building on Siaka Stevens in Freetown.   

3 men get 10 years each for sexual penetration

Justice Kumba Kamanda of the High Court in Freetown has sentenced three men to ten years imprisonment each after they were found guilty on a one-count indictment of sexual penetration with girls below the age of 18.

The three convicts were separately arraigned before the court on Friday 6th December 2020, where they all pleaded guilty to the offences for which they were charged.

Sierra Leone's parliament lacks capacity to analyse Gov't Budget – says KKY

The leader of the National Grand Coalition (NGC) party in parliament, Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, has raised concern over the capacity of the Sierra Leone parliament to critically analyze the government’s annual budget when presented before them.

He made this submission during the debate of the Appropriation Act, 2021, in the Well of Parliament, the bill that authorizes the government to spend from the consolidated fund for the service of Sierra Leone for the year 2021 and for other related matters.

Bo City Council resumes monthly General Cleaning

The city of Bo is going ahead to embark on regular general cleaning even with the halting of this nationwide activity by the central government.

Under the leadership of the Bo City Council, the city embarked on its first cleaning exercise since the halting of the nationwide exerciser on Saturday, December 5, 2020.

People from all works of life, particularly the youth, gathered in parts of the city to clean it up.

Lebanese Community in Washington supports Sierra Leone

In a bid to support Sierra Leone in its fight against the Coronavirus pandemic, the Lebanese Community in Washington DC has shipped a 40ft container of medical consignment to the West African country.

The aid, according to officials, came after the Sierra Leone Ambassador in Washington, Sidique Abou-Bakar Wai, set up a taskforce headed by Dr. Michael Rogers to galvanize support for his home country, Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone Supreme Court hears presidential election petition case

The Supreme Court of Sierra Leone presided over by Chief Justice Desmond Babatunde Edwards has given certain orders to lawyers representing the former Chairman of the National Electoral Commission (NEC) Mohamed N’fah Allie Conteh, Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio and the 2018 presidential candidate of the All Peoples Congress Party (APC) Dr. Samura Kamara and three others in light of continuation of the matter.
