Cripple gets 7 years in prison for sexual penetration

27-year old Faiya Musa, a physically challenged man has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment following his conviction of the offence of sexual penetration of a minor.

Delivering his judgement on Wednesday 10th February 2021 at the High Court in Freetown, Justice John Bosco Allieu said that the Prosecution had proven its case beyond all reasonable doubt.

He noted that the accused made a confessional statement to the police and pleaded that the matter not be charged to court but later denied knowing the victim at the commencement of the trial.

Sierra Leone’s First Lady investigated by anti-graft agency

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has announced that it has commenced investigations into the “Office of the First Lady, past and present, dealing with matters of budgetary justifications for allocations and expenditures of State funds to that entity and the legal and regulatory framework, if any, for them.”

Sierra Leone’s president to visit Guinea on Monday amid frost in relations

President Julius Maada Bio is to visit Guinea on Monday for talks with his opposite number there as part of continued efforts to resolve the disagreements between the two countries. 

It follows a visit to Freetown by the Guinean Foreign minister, Ibrahim Khalil Kabba which came after a high powered Sierra Leonean delegation had gone to Guinea and held talks with President Alpha Conde. 

Foreign minister Kabba submitted a letter to President Bio in which President Conde invited him to visit. 

Calls to regulate foster parenting in Sierra Leone

Defense for Children International (DCI) has called for stiffer policies and regulations binding those who may wish to take children of either blood relations or friends for nurturing, away from their biological parents either within or outside Sierra Leone.

The DCI Executive Director, Abdul Manaff Kemokai said that if the call was adhered to, it would save more Sierra Leonean girls from domestic and cross border trafficking which mostly occurs in the guise of caregiving or fostering.

Sierra Leone: Jui traders ask for compensation

High level engagements have continued between local authorities and traders at Jui whose wares were over the weekend destroyed by a team from the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) in the enforcement of its Right of Way. Some of the wares were also looted.

The traders had set up stalls and shops in shipping containers in areas along a side of the Freetown Teachers’ College (FTC) fence where numerous businesses had sprung up in recent times.
