Sierra Leone finance minister chairs WAMZ again

The West Africa Monetary Zone (WAMZ) has for the third time reelected Sierra Leone’s Minister of Finance,  Jacob Jusu Saffa to serve as Chairman of the Convergence Council of Finance Ministers and Governors of Central Banks.

Reports say he was re-elected during the 45th meeting of the Convergence Council held virtually on 16 February 2021 to deliberate on the status of the macroeconomic convergence and policy harmonization issues under the ECOWAS Single Currency Programme.

SL Mining case goes to full arbitration

The Iron Ore Mining Company, SL Mining has hailed a judgment by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) as a victory for the company in its legal battles with the government of Sierra Leone over the cancellation of its operational license in Marampa, northern Sierra Leone.

50,000 pre-paid meters for Bo and Kenema

Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, has officially received the first consignment of some 20,000 pre-paid meters meant for the Bo-Kenema electricity project from the Shenzhen Clou Company responsible for the provision of meters for the project.

The Minister and his team according to reports from the Ministry’s Communication Unit, were received and welcomed by the Resident Minister South, Mohamed Alie, who said he was pleased to receive the delegation in Bo.

NaCSA to expand GPC rice value chain operations to Kambia

The National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) and partners have agreed to extend the pro-poor Growth for Peace Consolidation (GPC) programme to Kambia District.

In January 2019, GoSL and the Federal Republic of Germany through the German Development Bank (KfW) signed a Financial Cooperation Agreement of Euro 20,000 million for the extension of the GPC programme to a third phase - GPC III - for a further four years ending in 2023. This phase of the programme is known as GPC III, succeeding the GPC I & II programmes which ran from 2006-2018.

NaCSA starts another round of direct cash transfers today

The National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) will today 17 February start direct cash transfers to enrolled beneficiaries of the Government of Sierra Leone COVID-19 Social Safety Net (SSN) in Kono, Kailahun, Kenema and the Western Area (Urban and Rural).

The move is part of the Government’s Quick Action Economic Response Programme aimed at addressing the effects of COVID-19 on citizens.
