Fisheries Ministry increases surveillance measures

The Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Emma  Kowa Jalloh has told journalists that the  Ministry is increasing  measures to counter illegal fishing and  enable proper stock assessment of the country’s marine resources.

Sierra Leone gets two more pathologists

Sierra Leone's only trained and qualified forensic pathologist, Dr. Simeon Owizz Koroma has welcomed government’s recruitment of two other pathologists to the department.

“I was called and formally introduced to the new recruits. This is something I have been longing for and it will ease the pressure on me especially from the medical school... I will not be spending time now under the microscope and that will ease my problems in light of exhumations, burial, citification and more,” he said.

Lawyer Lansana Dumbuya representing the defeated 2018 APC presidential candidate Dr. Samura Kamara and two other party officials, Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray and Dr. Osman Foday Yansaneh, being the 2nd 3rdand 4th petitioners of the 2018 presidential elections has told the Supreme Court that his clients had as part of their petition a “Statement of Case” citing the reliefs sought.

SDI engages stakeholders on RAI Law

The Society for Democratic Initiatives (SDI) has in a one-day information session engaged public information officers on the Right to Access Information law and its significance in ensuring accountability and transparency during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Executive Director of SDI, Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, said the process leading to the ratification of the Right to Access Information (RAI) law in 2013 lasted more than 10-years, noting that its successful implementations and public awareness lives on.

Sierra Leone calls for democracy in Myanmar

Sierra Leone's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva, Switzerland, Dr. Lansana Gberie joined a host of other countries at the 29th special session of the Human Rights Council to call on the military authorities in Myanmar to reverse their coup and restore the democratically elected government. 

The Special Session of the Council was initiated by the European Union and the United Kingdom.
