Stone mining becomes livelihood for Sierra Leone women

Manteneh Kargbo, a forty-five -year-old woman is one of twenty-three (23) women who have been engaged in stone mining at a quarry located at Serekoliya Road, one of four stone mining sites that have been established by women in the outskirt of Mongo Bendugu Town since 2018.  

Sierra Leone condemns terrorism in the Middle East

The Sierra Leone’s Deputy Chief of Missions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Ambassador Mohamed Hassan Koroma has condemned all forms of violence in the Middle East and the world at large.

He made this condemnation on Thursday 11th February 2021 during a visit at the headquarters of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) in Riyadh accompanied by the Head of Chancery/ Minister Plenipotentiary, Mr. Ibrahim Vandi Kondoh.

MP asks SLRTC to release buses at night

Member of Parliament for Constituency 059 in the Kambia district Abdul Karim Kamara has called on the Ministry of Transport and Aviation and the Sierra Leone Road Transport Corporation (SLRTC) to release the government buses at night on the streets of Freetown to aid the transportation difficulties commuters face especially during hours leading to the curfew period.

DCI trains lawyers on public interest litigation

Defense for Children International in partnership with Equality Now have in a two-day training engaged young and senior lawyers on strategic impact litigation, public interest litigations under national, regional and international human rights mechanisms to strategic litigation of selected cases of sexual violence.

The training which took place on Thursday 18th February 2021 in Freetown according to the organizers was part of efforts to get young legal practitioners attracted to public interest litigations.

Sierra Leone eases COVID19 measures

The National COVID-19 Emergency Response Center (NACOVERC) has in its recent review of the Covid-19 pandemic prevention measures extended the national-wide night curfew from 5: am to midnight.

A press release issued on Wednesday 17th February, announced that bars and restaurants are permitted to operate everyday outside of curfew hours but expected to adhere to all COVID-19 rules as well as be shot down in ample time against curfew.
