The police in Bo District are investigating the death of a 15-year old boy who succumbed to stab wounds sustained during gambling.

Charles Lebbie was stabbed to death last Saturday while gambling with his colleagues in the compound of St Andrew’s Secondary School in Bo City, Police said.

Mohamed Bobson Senu, southern region spokesman for the Sierra Leone Police, confirmed the news to Politico, noting that two people had already been arrested in connection with the incident.

Lebbie was a JSS 2 pupil at the National Islamic Secondary School in Bo.

"Charles Lebbie was with his colleagues at UCC compound and was stabbed there. We have arrested two people - Abdul Sawanneh and Ishmeal Sillah. They are helping the Police with investigation," Senu said.

Lebbie’s case is just one among a growing number of murder cases in Bo district in just the last one month, pointing to a rise in violence in the southern district.

Senu told Politico that Sorie Sesay, a former resident at Sewa Road, was stabbed to death by his brother Ibrahim Sesay. Ibrahim reportedly stabbed his brother over a property dispute.

According to eyewitness accounts, the two brothers fought for the family property of their late father. After they were separated, Ibrahim later went behind the house and brought a knife which he used to stab his brother.

Police say they now have him in custody amidst investigation.

In a nearby village, Ngangbama, a man known as Suliaman Fofanah reportedly killed his wife, Kadiatu Fofanah, because she refused him sex. In Lewabu, in the Bo township, a woman reportedly died as a result of a fist fight with another woman.

All four of these cases occurred in the last one month.

The Police say they are engaging communities through local police partnership boards as a way of arresting the rising incidences of violence.

Senu said they were already engaging with religious leaders to sensitize people against violence. The Police spokesman added that they were also engaging schools to closely monitor their pupils for violent behavior and gambling.
