KKY asks for parliamentary action on allegations against the Office of the President

The Parliamentary Leader of the opposition National Grand Coalition (NGC) in parliament has asked parliament to conduct a hearing on the allegations in the media on mismanagement of public funds by different institutions within the Office of the President.

Speaking in the well of parliament on Tuesday 16 February 2021, Dr Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella said that as Members of Parliament, they had been receiving so many phone calls from different people asking them about their reaction to the allegations.

Amidst reopening of common borders, Kombra Network fears Ebola in Guinea

 The Kombra Network in Kailahun district has expressed fear over the reopening of the common borders between Sierra Leone and Guinea and calls for massive community sensitization to prevent the spillover of Ebola into Sierra Leone.

Kombra Network is a coalition of Civil Society activists, Religious Leaders, Market Women, Traditional Healers, the media, Community Leaders, Youth Groups and Women’s Groups set up by Focus 1000 to undertake a range of actions to address underlying health issues in communities across the country.

Agriculture Ministry completes assets mapping

The Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security has completed a mapping exercise that identified the Ministry’s assets nationwide for possible use by the private sector in agricultural activities.

The deputy Minister, Sam King Brima made the disclosure on Thursday 18 February 2021 whilst highlighting their activities during the government’s weekly press briefing at the Youyi Ministerial building in Freetown.

NIB ends consultation with stakeholders in the east

The National Investment Board has on 20th February 2020 concluded a regional consultative engagement with stakeholders in the eastern region of Sierra Leone for their input into an investment policy developed before it is tabled for cabinet approval.

 In attendance at the event at Albertson hotel in Kenema were paramount chiefs, private investment companies, agricultural organizations including financial institutions.

“I rely on my statement to the police” – Man accused of murder tells court

One Foday Jusu Yambasu, who is alleged to have murdered Sorie Kamara, has told a jury at the High Court in Freetown that he relied on his statement to the police and will therefore not call any witnesses to testify in his defence.

His decision follows the close of the Prosecution’s case before Justice Monfred Sesay, leaving the accused with the option of either testifying from the dock, or take the witness stand and testify on oath relying on his statement to the police.

Sierra Leone ruling party blamed for by-election killing

The usually tranquil atmosphere in Banbaru village in the Penguia chiefdom in Kailahun district was rudely disrupted on Wednesday 17th February 2021 during a parliamentary by-election campaign in Constituency 010.

One Foday Morie, a teenager, was killed on the day of campaigning that was allotted to the governing Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).
