Director of Surveys & Land in court

By Mohamed Foday Conteh

The Director of Surveys and Lands at the Ministry of Lands and Country Planning, Tamba Dauda will appear before Freetown High Court Judge Mohamed Bawoh on Friday 17 September 2021.

The Director had been accused of initially dodging the court’s summon request and charged for contempt of court. Dauda was ordered by the high court to countersign survey plans but refused to do so. He is a defendant in a matter filed by Munya Ventures Limited and ORS as complainants.

Representative for the Director, Lawyer Jabbie on Thursday 16 September 2021 asked for an adjournment of the matter to Friday 17th September 2021 in order to peruse the file properly.

Lawyer Jabbie stated she had spoken with the plaintiff’s legal team with regards the said cause of action and maintained she was not the counsel for the director at the previous sitting. She drew reference to the dynamics of signing a document at the Lands Ministry which she said needed to be fully understood.

Counsel for the Plaintiff, Osman Jalloh objected to the request made by the legal team of the defence. He said that certain adjustments were made in the previous sitting and that he had envisaged that the court will make progress based on that. He said it was on that basis that the court granted bail to the defendant.

He acknowledged that Jabbie had spoken with him about her line of action but noted they will need to have a clear footing for the progress of the matter. He however pleaded with the judge that the same does not happen at the next adjourned date. The proceedings will continue today at High Court No. 5 in Freetown at 10:30 in the morning.
