Russian solicits Sierra Leone support

Sergey E. Cheremin a minister of the Government of Russia has called for Sierra Leone’s support towards their bid to host the 2030 EXPO. He made the call on Monday 11 October 2021 while presenting the bid to Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Mohamed Yongawo, at the Ministry’s conference hall in Moscow.

Chinese embassy supports Sierra Leone disaster agency

Following the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA)’s call on the Chinese Embassy in Freetown for effective collaboration and partnership in helping the agency delivers on its core mandates, the Chinese embassy has donated office and disaster equipment to NDMA.

 20 office chairs, 50 towel blankets, 50 pairs of rain shoes, 80 raincoats and four Huawei mobile phones were presented to NDMA at the embassy’s Spur Loop location on Tuesday 12th October 2021.

Accused discharged in sexual penetration case

Justice Momoh-Jah Stevens has discharged one John Mansaray, 22, of a sexual   penetration crime at the Sexual Offences Model Court in Freetown on Monday 11th  October this year.

Mansaray was arraigned in court on a count indictment of sexual penetration of a nine year old child.

Uncle ‘penetrated’ niece, 8 - says witness

8-year-old alleged victim of sexual abuse has told Justice Manuela Harding that accused person whom she used to refer to as Uncle Allen sexually penetrated her on 30 April this year.

Allen Cole was arraigned in the Sexual Offences Model Court in Freetown yesterday 12 October this year to answer to allegations of sexual penetration contrary to the Sexual Offences Act No.12 of 2012 as amended in 2019. Allen denied the allegations for which he is being arraigned .

Corruption drop in Sierra Leone-ACC

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has on 11th October presented the institution’s 2020 Annual Report to President Julius Maada Bio.

Among the successes indicated in the report was the country’s score on the corruption index of the Millennium Challenge Corporation scorecard which indicates that Sierra Leone scored 81% in the ‘Control of Corruption’. According to a statement issued by the institution, the country has recorded a drop in corruption which indicates a high standard for the country.
