Volunteer blind teacher cries for help

A 44 year-old teacher at Ansarul Arazan Primary School in Kenema Adonis Vandi S. Kallon  who lost his sight three years ago has appealed for humanitarian support. Kallon told Politico he has been teaching since 2009 after graduating with a teacher’s certificate. He said he has never been given a pin code and that his loss of sight has exacerbated his situation and therefore solicits support from the general public.

Court orders guest house to pay staff

A High Court ruling by Justice John Bosco Allieu has ordered Villa International Guest House on 11 Edward Lane, Brookfields in Freetown to pay two of its staff a total sum of twenty-one million, one hundred and nine thousand, one hundred and eight Leones (21,109,108).

Villa guest house was dragged to court by plaintiffs, Christopher Bangura and Milton Fatorma on allegations of failing to pay their annual leave allowances for six years and benefit.

Father, 56, remanded for sexual assault of daughter

Justice Momoh-Jah Stevens has sent one Mohamed Conteh, 56, on remand for allegedly having sex with his 17-year-old daughter in Lungi and Kambia .

The father made his second appearance at the Sexual Offences Model Court in Freetown on Saturday 16th October this year to answer to a crime of incest contrary to the Sexual Offences Act of 2012 as amended in 2019.

Sierra Leone partners with China on basic education

Sierra Leone and China have forged new closer educational ties in the basic education sector following a virtual meeting between Basic and Senior Secondary Education Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh and China’s Vice Minister of Education, Zheng Fuzhi on Friday 15 October this year.

The purpose of the virtual meeting was to share ideas on basic education including integration of technology, distance education techniques, experience sharing and other education related topics.

Sierra Leone jails breastfeeding mum for two years

Justice John Bosco Allieu has sentenced Kadiatu Tarawally, a 24-year-old suckling mother to two years imprisonment after she pleaded guilty to the offence of larceny.

Tarawally was arraigned in court to answer to the charge at the High Court in Freetown on the 14th October this year.

The prosecution believed that the woman stole from the shop of one Alberta Lappia on Cole Drive, Off Regent Road, Lumley in Freetown.

ACC convicts former NMA staff

Justice Cosmotina Jarrett of the Freetown High Court  on Friday 15 October 2021  convicted and sentenced Daniel Kapri Sesay, a former Mines Compliance Officer of the National Minerals Agency (NMA) over various corruption charges as levied by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
