The president of the Sierra Leone Football Association, Thomas Daddy Brima and the Executive Director of the National Sports Authority, Dr Kenneth Brima have been summoned to appear before the Anti-Corruption Commission on Friday.
Politico can authoritatively reveal that it is in connection with the conclusion of investigations bordering on the use of Le 6 billion allocated by the government of Sierra Leone for the national football team’s AfCON 2020 qualifier against Benin in June.
The match in Conakry between Sierra Leone and Benin saw the Leone Stars through to Cameroun but questions persist as to how the funds were utilized. Politico has also been investigating the match for months and will soon publish its findings.
This paper understands that letters were dispatched by the ACC on Tuesday to the parties concerned and the Ministry of Sport inviting Dr. Kenneth Brima and Thomas Daddy Brima to be at the ACC on Friday 15 October to hear the findings of the ACC and the actions the commission intends to institute as a result.
The ACC has been investigating how the NSA, the Ministry of Sports and the SLFA spent more than Le 6 billion on that match played away in the Republic of Guinea because of a CAF ban on the Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown
In the match itself striker Kei Kamara scored a first half penalty to send Sierra Leone to the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since 1996. The qualifier had twice been postponed due to coronavirus-test issues.
Hundreds of thousands of people welcomed the team home from Guinea and president Bio hosted the team and officials to a banquet and gave each of them 10, 000, 00 US dollars and parcels of land.
Under ACC law, if any of those investigated are indicted, they are required to step aside from office until the conclusion of the court matter.
