Low women inclusion in Presidential clemency- NGOs

Calls have been made for more women in detention who are faced with challenging situations to be included in the Presidential Pardon process. Two organisations Advocaid and Purposeful in a press release expressed dismay that only five women were included in the list of160 inmates that benefitted from the 2022 New Year presidential pardon granted to people serving time.

Human activities dry out River at Estuary Resort’

The Estuary Resort located around John Obey which once had a beautiful river is now a muddy pond. According to the Proprietor of the Resort Abdul Karim Jalloh, this is due to man-made activities in the environment. As a result of this and many other destructive activities, the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs in tandem with the Sierra Leone Tourist Board and investors around the John Obey Community have conducted an assessment and held a meeting with the community people.

Reshuffle: Alpha Khan appointed Minister

In the latest reshuffle of cabinet and other agencies and parastatls, President Julius Maada Bio has appointed Alhaji Alpha Saidu Bakar Kanu of the All Peoples Congress (APC) as the Minister of the North -Western Region. Until his appointment, the position was occupied by Haja Isata Abdulai-Kamara who is now the new Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry.

Cracks in ECOWAS, as Guinea boycotts sanctions

In a surprised reaction to the decision by Heads of State of ECOWAS to impose tougher economic sanctions against Mali, the military junta in Guinea has expressed its reservations to the ECOWAS measures. The ECOWAS stance on economic and financial sanctions against the military leaders in Mali came, after the soldiers in the Malian capital Bamako entrenched their grip on power by announcing their stay on to 2026.

13 under police custody over death of toddler

The Criminal Investigations Department of the Police in Kenema is currently investigating thirteen people from Nekabu village in the Nongowa chiefdom Kenema district for the alleged murder of a two year old child Chernor Amadu Bah.

According to Police Media Officer Amara Magor a case of a missing child was first reported by the toddler’s mother Isata Bah on the 31st December, 2021. The incident reportedly happened at Nekabu village.

Accused bought pills for ‘victim’- says police

Corroborating the evidence produced by Detective Sergeant 11234 Charles Conteh, the Exhibit Clerk at Congo Cross Police Station, Constable 15221 Alimamy Morlai Turay has tendered pills alleged to have been bought by accused person, Jacob Musa for his alleged 17-year-old girlfriend.

Musa, who is standing trial for sexual penetration of the minor sometime in late 2020, denied the allegations.
