Calls for more media involvement on SLEITI-MSG

Civil Society Groups have called on the media through the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists, (SLAJ) to improve on their participation, interest, and reporting on the Sierra Leone Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (SLEITI) process.

SLAJ is a member of the SLEITI- Multi-Stake Holders Group.

Drivers Prefer new Fuel Price to hoarding

Commercial transport drivers and bike riders in the country say they prefer the new increment in fuel price to hoarding. This came after a new pump price of 15,000 Leones, the second within two weeks, was announced by the Petroleum Regulatory Agency (PRA) on Wednesday 16 March 2022.

Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Haja Isata Abdulai Kamara says her Ministry was collaborating with the Sierra Leone Local Content Agency (SLLCA) to make it a must that big businesses like hotels use local products. She said that will be a stepping stone in making sure local entrepreneurs are promoted.     

Gov’t assures action for Sierratel workers

The Minister of Information and Communication, Mohamed Rahman Swaray has assured the aggrieved staff of the government Telecommunication Company, Sierratel of swift action from the government in order to resolve their long-standing salary issue.

The irate workers who claimed to have gone for four months without pay approached the minister on Thursday 17th March 2022, at his Youyi Building office in Freetown to express their grievances and intimate him of another industrial strike action they intend to take.

Just when football clubs and fans were getting increasingly anxious that this season’s Sierra Leone Premier League would halt, again, amid financial challenges, comes news that the government is to pump billions of leones into the beautiful game.

Sports Minister, Ibrahim Nyellenkeh has told Politico that they have completed paperwork to the finance ministry for the disbursement of Le 1,000,000,000 (one billion leones) to fund the rest of the men’s premier league.
