Stakeholders engage in climate change mitigation in SL

 The Ministry of the environment in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme has ended a consultative engagement with both local and international stakeholders to reflect on the outcome of the 1972 Stockholm +50 conference and how they could preserve Sierra Leone’s ecosystem and biodiversity.

Sierra Leonean shortlisted for Komla Dumor Award

Antonia Howard a broadcaster at the African Young Voices Television (AYV) has been shortlisted for the 2022 BBC Komla Dumor Award, making her the first Sierra Leonean to be considered for the award.

 The award was instituted to honour Komla Dumor, a Ghanaian broadcaster and presenter for the BBC World  who passed away in 2014. He was the main presenter of the BBC news programme Focus on Africa.

Mining activities pollute Taia River in southern Sierra Leone

Member of Parliament Alice Jebbeh Kumabeh from Bonthe has told the House that the river Taia, is faced with pollution due to mining activities in the surrounding communities. She raised this concern on the 17th March 2022 during the second reading of the Mines and Minerals Development Act, 2022.

BSL starts education on new currency

The Bank of Sierra Leone (BSL) has commenced public education on the new Leone currencies that are soon to be circulated in the country. A float parade began from the bank’s headquarters in downtown Freetown, with a truck providing electronic visual display of the various new notes, accompanied by educative messages.

Covid vaccination roll out at chiefdoms level in Kenema

The Kenema City and District councils together with the District Health Management Team and with support from the Integrated Health Project Administration Unit (IHPAU) have engaged chiefdom authorities in nine chiefdoms in the Kenema district on covid-19 vaccination activities.

Niawa, Dodo, Malegohun, Lower Bambara, Wandor, Gorama Mende, Nomo, Koya, Kandu- Leppiama, and Tunkia are the chiefdoms targeted for the first round. The remaining chiefdoms were captured on the second day of the community engagement.

Life by design certifies 58 TVET students

Health Ministry to host summit in April

The Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS) together with various partners will host a three-day National Health Summit and Recognition Award at the Bintumani Conference Centre in Freetown in early April. The event to highlight the transformation of the healthcare delivery systems in the country will commence at the Bintumani Conference Centre in Freetown on the 7th of April 2022.
