FoRUT discusses strategic plan in Freetown

Independent Media Commission holds retreat in Bo

The Independent Media Commission (IMC), an institution that regulates and monitors the operations of media institutions in Sierra Leone, has ended a two-day retreat at the Galiness paradise conference Hall in Bo.

  In his opening statement, the new IMC Chairman, Dr. Victor Massaquoi said as the new head of the institution, there is every need for him to engage with the stakeholders to learn about the structure, existing system, procedures, and plans of the institution for the next three years.  

Internal Affairs Minister against indiscipline

The Minister of Internal Affairs, David Maurice Panda-Noah, has raised concerns over issues concerning indiscipline and lawlessness, saying that when people are talking about corruption and recklessness “people should think about themselves and not by pointing fingers”.

Speaking at the weekly government Press Conference in Freetown last week, the minister said he was more concerned about the issue of nationalism and patriotism, things that they in the security sector “take very seriously”.

Candidates raise concern over poor coordination of police exams

A good number of people who sat to the Police enlistment examination at the Hastings Police Training School last Saturday have expressed dissatisfaction over what they claimed was “poor coordination” of the process.

Speaking to Politico they complained of facing difficulties locating their centres and even their names.

Minister of Works updates on roads sector

The Minister of Works and Public Assets, Peter Bayuku Konteh, has updated the public on the current status of the construction roads across Sierra Leone undertaken by the government.

At a Press Conference hosted by the Ministry of Information and Communication on Thursday 3rd March 2022, the minister stated that they had completed the construction of the Wellington/Massiaka and the Limkokwing University/Regent roads.

Paramount Chief concerned over boundary disputes

The Paramount Chief of Luawa Chiefdom, Mohamed Kailondo Banya has expressed concern over boundary-related conflicts between chiefdoms in the district which he said are posing as  serious security issue to them as authorities.

He said such disputes are creating tension among their subjects while they as leaders are overwhelmed in trying to deal with those issues, and therefore called on the new resident minister to intervene and help resolve those matters before they degenerate into violence.

Ministerial Committee to address water problem

The Government of Sierra Leone has authorized nine (9) ministries to handle issues concerning water catchments, mangroves, and forest reserves, all directed at water management in the Western Area, Freetown. This was disclosed at a press briefing at the Ministry of Information and Communications in Freetown on Thursday 10 March 2022.
